Albatros D.III
Eduard 1/48
By: Jack Gartner
Eduard 1/48th scale Albatros D-III (non-Profipack version). This was built straight out of the box except for the underwing decal which was custom made. Prop is hand painted. The plane depicts a Jasta 26 bird flown by Lt. Weaver prior to his two separate headstanding landing accidents that basically trashed both leading edges of the upper wing (Aircraft in Profile, Vol. 6, p. 87)
Well, I guess I'll be one of those who won't quite make the Albatros deadline, but here are some pics to show I'm trying! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the digital camera from work before I closed up the fuselage, but I did do a lot of scratchbuilding for the interior (this is the Eduard 1/48th scale kit). I'm happy with how it is coming along and should be done soon (but not soon enough). The hand painted prop is the best one I've ever done! Also, I've included a shot of my interpretation of the background for the upper (and lower wing crosses). I believe they were the underside greenish blue. Since no one is around who can tell us for certain, I feel it's as valid a choice as those who insist it is green.
